However, in 2025, its dominance surged to a multi-year high, leaving its biggest rival, iOS, far behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/jemlit.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jemlit.com<\/a>, Android devices made 74.1% of global mobile web traffic in June, marking the highest share in five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Android Hits Five-Year High After Q1 Slump<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Android\u2019s open system, which lets different phone makers customize and use the OS freely, has helped drive a huge wave of Android-powered devices over the years. The rise of Chinese smartphone vendors like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo and their affordable 5G smartphones has only fuelled this trend, giving Android even more of an edge in emerging markets where Apple\u2019s pricing remains out of reach for the average consumer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This perfect storm of events has cemented Android&#8217;s position as the <strong>undisputed king of the mobile operating system market<\/strong>. Still, that doesn&#8217;t mean Android&#8217;s market share hasn`t seen significant fluctuations over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"infogram-embed\" data-id=\"fc75593b-8a32-4732-8d20-d68879c2d8be\" data-type=\"interactive\" data-title=\"Android market share in June\"><\/div><script>!function(e,n,i,s){var d=\"InfogramEmbeds\";var o=e.getElementsByTagName(n)[0];if(window[d]&&window[d].initialized)window[d].process&&window[d].process();else if(!e.getElementById(i)){var r=e.createElement(n);r.async=1,r.id=i,r.src=s,o.parentNode.insertBefore(r,o)}}(document,\"script\",\"infogram-async\",\"https:\/\/e.infogram.com\/js\/dist\/embed-loader-min.js\");<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Statcounter data, seven years ago, back in July 2018, Android held an impressive 77.3% of the mobile web traffic market, the highest figure ever recorded, leaving iOS far behind at just 19.4%. After a 6% drop by November that year, Android quickly recovered, reaching nearly 77% again by October 2019. However, over the next six months, Android lost more than 7% of the market, while iOS climbed to 28.8% in April 2020. Five months later, its market share rebounded to 74.4%, a level not seen again until this June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past five years, Android\u2019s market share has mostly stayed between 70% and 72%, with a few ups and downs. In May 2023, it dropped to 67.7% but then climbed to 73.4% by December. Early this year, it slipped again, reaching 71.9% in March. And while it seemed this was the start of another negative trend, the numbers quickly rebounded, climbing to 74.1% in June, and marking a five-year high. At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/6609acc3-71f7-4f98-b286-9fad0765aa2d.static.getshifter.net\/apple-loses-ground-iphone-market-share-drops\/\">iOS hit a five-year low<\/a>, with its market share falling to 25.4% that same month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Android Generates Nearly Half of Mobile Web Traffic Even in the iOS-Dominated US Market<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Android and iOS have battled for market dominance for more than a decade, each pushing innovations and improving user experience with every update. While iOS has long been the undisputed leader in North America, home to the largest concentration of iPhone and iPad users, new data from Statcounter shows that <strong>Android is gaining ground even in this saturated, iOS-dominated market<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, iOS made up 50.6% of mobile web traffic in North America, down 8% in just a year and a half. Android was right behind with 49.09%, its highest share since October 2019. Asia continues to be Android\u2019s biggest stronghold, with the platform generating 81.4% of mobile web traffic that month, more than four times iOS\u2019s 18.2%.
